Hey everyone! In this post, I’m going to talk about Monkey D. Luffy, and his upcoming powers. Before I begin, I want to let you all know that this post contains heavy spoilers from the climax of the Whole Cake Island arc. Please don’t continue reading if you don’t want to be spoiled. However, if you don’t mind being spoiled, then let’s continue. At the end of the Whole Cake Island arc, we have Luffy vs Katakuri.
The fight is still ongoing, and it looks like it’ll take some time to finish. Katakuri is someone who cannot be take down easily, and this is because of his powers to use his unique Devil Fruit, and his future sight Haki. Speaking of the future sight Haki, it is a power that very few people in One Piece will have access to. However, I’m sure Katakuri is not the only one.
In fact, in one of the chapters when Luffy was running from Katakuri, he exclaimed that he will try looking into the future as well. Although that shouldn’t be positive for him with the level that he is at, I won’t be surprised if Luffy manages to pull it off. What if I tell you that Luffy has already awakened the power to see into the future once before?
At Marineford, we all saw that Luffy faced countless obstacles that prevented him from saving Ace. One of these obstacles was Hawkeyes Mihawk. When Mihawk attacked Luffy, he had a brief premonition that his hands would be torn off by the slash. So, he backed out. This is a classic example of Luffy using future sight Haki. However, at that time, he did it subconsciously. He hasn’t shown the power to do so ever again since then.
But if you’re still not convinced that Luffy used future sight Haki, then let’s look at this. When Luffy backed out of the slash, here’s what Mihawk said to him, “You look unusually calm”. What does this mean? As explained by Charlotte Katakuri himself, Observation Haki doesn’t work if one is not calm and collected. This is the key here. Mihawk confirms that Luffy was extremely calm during that situation.
This only means that Luffy did indeed use future sight Observation Haki back at Marineford. The next question is, can he do it again? I think that’s where Oda is going, frankly. Luffy himself said he was going to try looking into the future as well, and then we had a Rayleigh flashback saying Haki truly awakens only when one is in a battle. So, I think Luffy might awaken the future sight Haki at Whole Cake Island. But, if it doesn’t happen, then I’m certain that he’ll get it in the future.
Thats it from me.
