Hey everyone! In today’s post, I would like to talk about Monkey D. Luffy, and his latest power up. If you’re a manga reader, you would know that a power up for Luffy has been on the cards. If you have read the spoilers for chapter 891 of One Piece, then you know what power up I’m talking about. I know there are some of you who don’t want to be spoiled. If you are one of these, u suggest you don’t go any further.
However, if you don’t mind being spoiled, then let’s continue. Let me get straight to the point here. The spoilers for chapter 891 of One Piece suggest that Luffy has received a major power up, and that is to see the Future with Observation Haki. This power originally belonged to Charlotte Katakuri as we know it. According to Bege, he had trained his Observation Haki to a level where he could look into the future.
Many fans are outraged with luffy gaining his observation Haki against Katakuri. It was hinted that Luffy might get this power since he had a flashback of Rayleigh teaching him about Haki. Rayleigh said that be true power of Haki only blooms when you’re in a huge fight.
Think about this, after the training with Rayleigh we are presented with luffy abilities to master 3 Haki which is Armament, Observation and Conquerer. All of that Haki is presented in Sabaody Archipelago where they are supposed to meet his other crew.
The focus then turns to armament Haki only. Luffy upgraded attacks infused with haki and change its name. There is less mentioned about his observation Haki. There are certain times where he uses his observation but he never used it in a hard fight like when he was fighting Doflamingo and Cracker.
Some say it is a bad writing giving luffy power-up since Katakuri trained his whole life to see the future but I say it is purposeful. In the fight versus Doflamingo, Luffy demonstrated his Gear Fourth as a result for his training with Rayleigh. Gear Fourth is more on using armament Haki for the Bound Man transformation and it still focused more on Armament.
In the fight versus Cracker, luffy transform his Gear Fourth into Tank Man and introduced new technique called Gomu Gomu no Kong Organ but its still focused more on Armament Haki. Then in the fight versus Katakuri then we all know what is the observation Haki is about. You see, there is a very nice written storyline that develop around how luffy will get even stronger. Before this, we didnt know that observation Haki have much potential that Katakuri has done. It open a whole new concept of mastering the observation Haki to see into the future.
Luffy trained to have mastery over his Haki and Gear Fourth is the demonstration of his Armament Haki and flashbacks of Rayleigh hints on how Luffy will get stronger and the key on mastering observation Haki.
Maybe Luffy havent mastered his observation Haki fully when he trained with Rayleigh even his Gear Fourth still have many flaws such as the overused of Haki and recharge time. This flashbacks of rayleigh words remind him on how to master the Haki and luffy risk it by facing stronger opponents.
From this we can see the pattern of Mastering Haki one another on a very hard fight. We might see Luffy masters his Haoshoku somewhere in the future when one with he faced with one who have Mastery on it. Luffy will not fully masters his Observation Haki in this fight but he might grasp on the glimpse of it.
There might a slight chance that luffy and Katakuri matches ended in stalemate. This is because the wedding cake is done and they wont have to fight anymore if Big Mom satisfy her hunger.
